Newbie Question

Can any one please provide a sample of how to read a field in SQL database
using VBS? I'm trying to learn how to do something more complex then this,
but this should get me started, hopfully.
Thanks in advance
Here's a link to a simple ASP example. For straight VBS just remove the
Server. bits for CreateObject e.g.
Set DataConn = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
becomes
Set DataConn = CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
http://www.asp101.com/samples/viewas...database%2Easp
You can ignore the top bit and just look at the database access code. Should
give you some ideas. Also look at
http://www.w3schools.com/ado/default.asp

Newbie question

I am looking to go into a DBA role and I keep hearing
about clustering servers.
Is there anywhere I can go to learn about it? Or can
someone please tell me what it is and how to set it up?
Thanks,

haven't read it yet, but I need the same info to improve my chances at a
better DBA job than the one I have...Clustering is definitely an advanced

Newbie Q with SQL

i am pretty much a total beginner with SQL, and i was wondering if there were any downloadable SQL tutorials out there that could allow me to learn the language.

This has come to to inheriting a server from the IT department, and i feel i should learn SQL to basically not make an @.ss of myself and mess things up big style.i used these links to get a basic understanding

http://www.w3schools.com/sql/default.asp

and http://sqlzoo.net

Dave|||cheers dave. I had a look at those ones earlier, but thought there may be a more in depth version out somewhere.|||if you understand French

I recommend those ones :

Newbie needs help with simple query :-)

Hi All,
I have been trying to learn and use SQL, and have learned quite a bit
(relatively speaking!!). Still, cannot get the below query to work...
if anyone could help out, I would be very grateful (and have learn't
something new!!!) =)
SELECT T0.ItemCode, T0.ItemName,T1.ItmsGrpNam, SUM(T3.OnHand),
SUM(T3.IsCommited), SUM(T3.OnOrder), (SUM(T3.OnHand) + SUM(T3.OnOrder)
- SUM(T3.IsCommited)) AS 'Available', T2.Currency, T2.Price
FROM OITM T0 INNER JOIN OITB T1 ON T0.ItmsGrpCod = T1.ItmsGrpCod INNER
JOIN ITM1 T2 ON T0.ItemCode = T2.ItemCode INNER JOIN OITW T3 ON
T0.ItemCode = T3.ItemCode
WHERE T0.PrchseItem = 'Y' AND T2.PriceList = '[%1]' AND T1.ItmsGrpNam
= '[%2]'
The summing bits are because in OITW there are around 30 warehouses, so
need the "total" on hand etc. Can get it to work with just OITW, but
need the other info in the same query as well :-(
Thanks,
RajivYou'll need to append a GROUP BY clause to the end of the query and any
specify any columns not aggregated in the SELECT list.

Rajiv,
All non-aggregate columns in the SELECT list (i.e. all columns that don't
have a SUM tied to them) must be included in a GROUP BY clause.
Try the following... NOTE: untested
SELECT T0.ItemCode,
T0.ItemName,
T1.ItmsGrpNam,
SUM(T3.OnHand),
SUM(T3.IsCommited),
SUM(T3.OnOrder),
(SUM(T3.OnHand) + SUM(T3.OnOrder) - SUM(T3.IsCommited))
AS 'Available',
T2.Currency,
T2.Price
FROM OITM T0
JOIN OITB T1 ON T0.ItmsGrpCod = T1.ItmsGrpCod
JOIN ITM1 T2 ON T0.ItemCode = T2.ItemCode
JOIN OITW T3 ON T0.ItemCode = T3.ItemCode
WHERE T0.PrchseItem = 'Y'
AND T2.PriceList = '[%1]'
AND T1.ItmsGrpNam = '[%2]'
GROUP BY
T0.ItemCode,
T0.ItemName,
T1.ItmsGrpNam,
T2.Currency,
T2.Price
Rick Sawtell
MCT, MCSD, MCDBA|||Wow... that seemed to work. Hmm... so have to group all non "aggregated
columns". Ok, something new to play with!!!
THANK YOU GUYS!!!! =)

Newbie - Need Help

Hi,

I'm totally newbie in this age of coding / development & need to start to jump-in in this part of IT & need help that how to start / learn client / server database development either web based or something like this using sql2000 / vs2003.net ( vb ect. ). I know that there r new versions of sql & vs.net but I've just have to manage the versions mentioned above.

Just want to let u know that I've just handed over a half completed employee's attendance system ( database running in sql2000 ) & have asked to develop the reports for the data entered daily by employee's in/out barcode card scanning.

Rather to start develop reporting, I want to understand from roots that how the database ( tables etc. ) created / linked & how / which application I need to use at front end for the reporting in this project.

Any help / idea / guideness / advise in this regard will be highly apprecitaed.

Regards / Sulman
Sulman,

I'm sorry, I'm not understanding your question very well. Are you asking for more information on the best way to do reporting out of a SQL Server database?

Thanks, MJ|||

One way of doing reporting would be using Reporting Services. Here's a bunch of tutorials here.

Newbie

Friends,

I am a newbie in sql programming, I don't know much about the programming.
I 've tried to make a trigger but it failed.

Where can I learn about it and rather free for payments. ( Sorry about that
statement, cause it rather expensive for my revenue)

comes with the SQL Server client utilities. You can also get a lot of
information from Microsoft's website (www.microsoft.com). If you have
specific questions, then you can of course post them here.
