Newbie question : SQL Admin on Windows server 2003 small business edition.
server it does not include enterprise manager. How am i supposed to be able
to administor anythig, i thought i had seen an app mentioned that did it via
a web console but cannot find such an app.
I am trying to connect to my own SQL server and cannot, someone else has
tried to access it via their enterprise manager but they require a username
/ password, i have tried every password i can imagine that has been used for
the setup of the server, is there any way i can reset the pass or check what
it is?
As it's our server i have full admin rights on it.
Many thanks,
Moss
Assuming you mean SBS 2003 premium, did you select to install SQL Server in
the setup? Check under program files for Microsoft SQL Server directory. I
don't believe it installs automatically...

Newbie Question - Service Manager / Win 2003
I'm running a Microsoft Windows 2003 Server computer, which is using a MS SQL server to feed our office application, OfficeTalk.
Due to the extreme size of the database, we have decided to install an external 1TB drive, and move the database to it.
The difficult bit we're finding is how to make it so that the service loads the new data source.
In other words, how do you use Service Manager to parse an argument to dbsvr.exe in order to change the database location?
Regards,
Matthew.Hi Mathew and welcome to TSDN MSSQL forum,
If you have an agreed maintenance slot where you can take the MSSQL server down, I would suggest do the following:
Back everything up
using enterprise manager detach on the database you want to move
copy the database to the new location
using enterprise manager attach the database by browsing to the new location.
If you get problems, backout by detaching the database in the new location and attach the old one.
Suggest you also try it out on a test DB, northwinds etc before you go for it for real..

Newbie Problems Configuring Report Server
manager and I am at the point where the following options have green circles
with checkmarks:
Server Status
Report Server Virtual Directory
Report Manager Virtual Directory
Windows Service Identity
Web Service Identity
Database Setup
Encryption Keys is a blue circle with an exclamation point with the choices
Backup, Restore, Change and Delete. I choose Backup and gave the key a
password and clicked ok but the applied button at the bottom stayed grayed
out.
Below the Encryption Keys button is Initialization and that is in a gray
circle with a checkmark. Since it is gray I can not select it.
What is it that the configuration manager is waiting for me to do?
I tried going into the SQL Server Management Studio to see if I could
connect to the Report Server from there. I get an error message saying
"Cannot connect to RBDS01. The request failed with HTTP Status 400: Bad
Request. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.UI.RSClient)
I would appreciate any ideas as to what I need to do so that I can connect
to the Report Server?
Thanks.

www.rbdata.comIf the "server status" shows green then it is ok that your server is
connecting. encryption is optional it creates automatically so if you want
to change or take backup this can be done using this option.
otherwise it should work seeing the green check mark on "server status" Hope
you are connecting to the same server you configured. ie (RBDS01)
Go to surface area and check for the network enabled in which you are
accesing ie tcp/ip.

Newbie Help!
I work for a company who have just lost the IT Manager, and we are in the
process of appointing another, I am a amature person (normally in sales,
don't hate me). However, we are using Sharepoint POrtal server with a SQL
2000 server for the databases.
There is the companyC1_SITE database which is now showing as suspect after a
server restart, and I notice the LDF is showing 0kb size.
The msdb.mdf is also showing as suspect.
The error log says that the SITE database was not detached cleanly.
I have a backup from the beginning of October, but nothing after that seems
to be valid. So I now must rely on whether or not it will be possible to
recover the corrupt site MDF?
The MDF's are on a RAID array with 270GB free space so the databases did not
become suspect due to space running out.
Any pointers would be very much appreciated.

Your best bet if you want it fixed ASAP and with the least risk of data loss
is to contact MS PSS so they can work directly with you to see what can be
done. Is your data worth about $225.00? I suspect it is and that will be a
small price to pay to get it fixed properly.

Newbie Can't See tables of DB in Enterprise Manager
I'm trying to view the tables of a db on a SQL7 server, but cannot. I used
to be able to... The view says "Tables 289 Items" but then also says "There
are no items to show in this view" where the tables are normally listed.
Any ideas why?
Thanks,
IvanHi,
From Query Analyzer , execute the below code to get the table details.
Use <dbname>
go
sp_tables
Thanks

Newb: Managing multiple queries
single table in a DB. I refresh these queries every few minutes. Due
to the huge number of them I was looking for a better way (or should I
just say "a way") to manage/save these queries so I can recall them
easier/faster for monitoring purposes. Suggestions?
TIA.Hi,
Maybe creating a stored procedure (or more, if the queries are logically
grouped) will help you. Then you would need just to execute the stored
procedures in Query Analyzer (which is the tool intended to run queries
anyway). Alternatively you can save the queries to a script file, and then
open and run in Query Analyzer.

Are there examples of "script files"? I have a few files that are used
for creating databases and tables, but somehow I think there is more
potential in using scripts.
Thanks|||Under "script files" I meant to save your frequently used SQL code to a
file, preferably with extension ".sql". Since you indicate you already save
your code to files, then you have your script files.
In SQL Server 2005, the SQL Server Management Studio adds a new capability
to organize scripts in projects (very similar to Visual Studio projects). It
is accessible via the File menu in SSMS (File -New - Project -SQL
Server Scripts template).
Script files are good because they can be easily added to a source control
system.
