newbie question on DTS

Hi,
I am trying to create a DTS package to transfer tables and views from SQL
Server to MySQL, the tables and views I want to transfer do not exist in
MySQL yet. In DTS designer I created the connections to SQL server and
MySQL server without problems, then tried to use "Data Transform Task" to
transfer, the problem I have, "Data Transform Task" tries to map tables
from SQL Server to the tables in MySQL, that defies my whole purpose.
Please help! I am using SQL Server 2000 Developer Edition.
I may be incorrect on this, but I don't think that you can transfer objects
(i.e., table schema) to other vendors' databases.
That would require that the DTS Import/Export Wizard have intimate knowledge
of each vendors permutation of the SQL DDL.
Of course, as inferred above, I haven't attempted to transfer objects to
MySQL. I would expect the DTS Export Wizard to provide me the option to
transfer the table as well as the data IF it were possible.

Newbie question about Object transfer

Hi,

I'm new to Integration Services and I have a problem when I try to make a simple transfer of tables and views between 2 DB.

The idea is to copy tables and views from DB1 to DB2.

If the object exists in the target DB, it must be dropped, then created and the data must be copied.

The problem occurs when a new object is created in the source DB and thus does not exist in the target DB. This throws an error because the system cannot drop an object wich does not exist.

What is the workaround ?

The idea is to execute this package every hour to have a cached DB. In this case, replication is not a solution.

Thanks in advance,

Patrice.

This issue is a bug in SQL Server 2005 RTM. Hopefully it will be fixed in one of the SP releases in the near future.

Newbie RDL to RDLC Conversion

Hi,
I am developing a few reports using the Micrsoft report server which
create a "RDL" file. I was wondering if I can directly transfer these
reports to my ASP.Net application and convert them to the RDLC format?
can anybody provide any information about this functionality?
ThanksAssuming they are RS 2005 files all you have to do is change the extension
and bring them into you project.
I looked at using the viewer control in local mode (which is what you are
talking about doing) and if you have a RS server around you are much better
off to use it in server mode. There is a lot of mucking around that you have
to do with local reports. For instance, for a subreport you have to wire up
an event. It is nothing all that difficult but between hooking up events,
retrieving the data etc it is a good bit more effort than just calling the
report and passing a parameter.

Thank you for the response. How do I deal with "RDS (Shared Data
Source)" and "RDL.Data" files? hwo di I migrate those to my web site?
Mo|||I think you are a bit confused about how the control works. First, you are
using the reportviewer control that ships with VS 2005. It comes both as a
webform and as a winform control. Assuming you are then you need to decide
whether you want to use local mode or server mode. In server mode it
connects to RS server. You provide the parameters and it calls and then
displays the report. This is pretty straight forward to implement. In local
mode you give it the report (rdlc file) and hand it the dataset (really a
datatable). You have total control and you have to do more work.
RS does not have an RDL file on the server, it stores the object. You have
to save the report from Report Manager or get it out of the original VS
project that created the reports.

NewB- Selected Data transfer from tables

New to the forums and SQL and need help to solve a tech support issue.
I need to export selected data from one table into a new table.

fields: NAME_LAST, NAME_FIRST, PURCHASE_ACCOUNT_BALANCE, EVENT_CREDIT_BALANCE
from table: C_CUSTOMER
where: EVENT_CREDIT_BALANCE, PURCHASE_ACCOUNT_BALANCE > 0

into new table: APPLE_CUSTOMERS

Any help would be great. My iterations haven't worked and I don't have my SQL book here and my searches aren't helping.
I am using interbase.
Thanksinsert into apple_customers(NAME_LAST, NAME_FIRST, PURCHASE_ACCOUNT_BALANCE, EVENT_CREDIT_BALANCE
) select NAME_LAST, NAME_FIRST, PURCHASE_ACCOUNT_BALANCE, EVENT_CREDIT_BALANCE
from C_CUstomers where
EVENT_CREDIT_BALANCE>0 AND PURCHASE_ACCOUNT_BALANCE > 0

or

insert into apple_customers(NAME_LAST, NAME_FIRST, PURCHASE_ACCOUNT_BALANCE, EVENT_CREDIT_BALANCE
) as select NAME_LAST, NAME_FIRST, PURCHASE_ACCOUNT_BALANCE, EVENT_CREDIT_BALANCE
from C_CUstomers where
EVENT_CREDIT_BALANCE>0 AND PURCHASE_ACCOUNT_BALANCE > 0|||Thanks, I was so close...|||Go to MS-Access.
Goto tables pane.
Right click->Import
Choose ms excel as Files of type. Specifiy the file and import the data
No rename the table name into all CAPITAL LETTERS

Right click on newly created table.
Export.
Choose ODBC Databases as Files of Type.
Choose the DSN . (If you havent created then goto control panel->administrative->ODBC. create as System DSN)

and then you are done
